Trip to Myanmar, a hidden treasure : 18. The story of the first day of Mandalay_Mandalay, Myanmar
버티다버티다 여덟시 반에 이야기 했더니 지금 방 청소 중이니 10, 20분만 기다려달라고 한다.
그리고 잠시 후 준비 되었으니 체크인 해도 된다고 해서 각종 정보를 작성하고 방으로 올라왔다.
지금 시간 오전 아홉시.
방에 들어오자마자 짐도 안풀고 옷만 벗어던지고는 딥 슬립.
I talked to the staff at 8:30, and they asked me to wait for 10 or 20 minutes because they are cleaning the room.
And after a while, he said he could check in because he was ready, so he filled out various information and came up to the room.
The current time is 9 a.m.
As soon as I entered the room, I didn’t unpack and just threw off my clothes, and then I had a deep sleep.
한숨 푹자고 일어나니 오후 두시가 되었다.
귀찮고 피곤하고 힘들지만 여행와서 이렇게 하면 안된다는 생각에 샤워를 하고 무얼 할까 잠시 고민하다가
이동한 첫 날은 주변에 무엇이 있는지 돌아다니는 것이 늘 하던 일이니까
카메라를 챙겨들고 로비로 내려와서 시내 지도를 하나 얻고는 밖으로 나왔다.
I woke up with a good sleep and it was 2 p.m.
It’s annoying, tiring, and hard, but I thought I shouldn’t do this after a trip, so I took a shower and thought about what to do for a while,
The first day I moved to another city, it was my usual job to go around and see what was around.
I came down to the lobby with my camera, got a map of the city, and came out.
근처에 위치한 기차역 주변이 번화가라는 이야기를 들어 구글맵을 켜서 방향을 확인하려는데
벌써부터 택시기사가 호객행위를 하기 시작한다.
산책중이라고 말하고 걷고있는데 햇빛이 정말 뜨겁고 습하다.
피부가 끈적끈적해지는게 느껴진다.
그래도 푹 쉬고 나왔으니 파이팅하며 큰 길을 향해 걷고 있는데
커다란 트럭이 길가에 차를 세우니까 동네 사랔들이 바구니를 하나씩 들고 우루루 몰려 나온다.
음식물쓰레기인지 그냥 쓰레기인지는 모르겠지만 트럭만을 기다린 듯 다들 한 바구니 가득 들고 나온다.

As a large truck stops at the side of the road, people flock out with large baskets one by one.
I don’t know if it’s food waste or just trash, but everyone comes out with a basket as if they were waiting for a truck.
그들을 지나쳐 나온 큰길에서 왕궁 방향으로 걷다보니 호객행위가 점점 심해진다.
택시 탈 거냐고 묻다가 거절하니 오토바이 타는 제스쳐를 취하면서 묻는다.
일단은 모두 다 거절하면서 점심을 먹지 않았더니 출출한데 조금 있으면 저녁 먹어야해서
간단히 먹을만한것 찾다가 베이커리를 발견했다.
옳다구나 싶어 드러간 베이커리에서 빵을 두개 고르고 아이스아메리카노 한 잔 주문해서 자리에 앉았다.
빵 먼저 가져다 주었는데 동남아 지역은 유럽에 식민지배를 오래 받아서 유럽 문화를 많이 접했기 때문에 빵은 참 맛있다.
동남아에서 빵 만큼 기본 이상하는 것은 찾기 힘들지 않을까.
그런데 아메리카노는 달다.
내게 설탕 넣을지 묻지도 않아놓고 한 가득 넣은 듯 싶다. ㅠㅠ.
As I walk in the direction of the royal palace on the main road that passed them, the solicitation becomes more and more severe.
They ask me if I’m going to take a taxi, but I refuse, and this time they ask me while making a motorcycle gesture.
Everyone refused. I didn’t eat lunch. I’m hungry but I have to eat dinner soon
I found a bakery while looking for something to eat.
I thought it was right, so I chose two breads from the bakery I left, ordered a glass of iced americano, and sat down.
I brought bread first, but Southeast Asia has been colonized by Europe for a long time, so the bread is very delicious because it has encountered a lot of European culture.
Wouldn’t it be hard to find anything as basic as bread in Southeast Asia.
But americano is sweet.
I feel like I’ve put in a lot of sugar without even asking. crying.
밖으로 나와 방금 걸었던 곳을 돌아가 오토바이 택시를 찾아 두리번 거리며 걷고 있는데
아까는 그 많던 기사들이 어디 갔는지 보이지 않고 택시기사 하나가 다가온다.
어디가냐고 묻길래 만달레이힐 갈거라고 하고 오토바이 찾고 있다고 했더니
본인 택시로 12000짯에 갔다가 호텔에까지 데려다준다고 한다.
잠시 고민하다가 그래도 혼자니까 오토바이 택시를 타야겠다고 하니 10000짯에 가자고 한다.
잠시 고민하다가 더 늦으면 일몰 타이밍 늦을것 같기도 해서 택시를 타고 출발했다.
I came out and walked around looking for a motorcycle taxi,
I can’t see where the many drivers went before, and a taxi driver approaches me.
He asked me where I was going, and I said, “I’m going to Mandalay Hill, and I’m looking for a motorcycle taxi.”
He says he will take his taxi to 12,000Ks and take me to the hotel where I stay.
After thinking for a while, I said, “I’m still alone, so I’ll take a motorcycle taxi,” and he tells me, “Let’s go to 10000Ks.”
After thinking about it for a while, I took a taxi and left because I thought the sunset timing would be late if it was later.
그의 이름은 표.
내게 F4를 아냐며 꽃보다남자 이야기를 하는데 아직도 미얀마에서는 꽃보다남자 구준표가 그렇게 인기란다.
잘 가꿔진 도로에서 어느 산길로 들어가더니 완전 구불구불한 길을 올라가는데 에어컨까지 끄고 창문열고 올라간다.
아무래도 차가 오래되어 그런 듯 싶다.
엄청 뜨겁고 습한 날임에도 그 길을 걸어 올라가는 현지인들의 모습도 보인다.
어느정도 올라가면 주차비인지 차량 입장료인지 모르겠는 입장료가 있는데
오토바이 타고 가면 손님이 내야 한다고 하던데 택시는 택시기사가 낸다.
조금더 올라가 도착한 주차장.
신발을 신고 올라갈 수 없으니 차에 신발 놓고 맨발로 올라가라며 안내해준다.
본인은 올라가지 않고 주차장에서 기다릴테니 일몰 다 보고 내려오라고 한다.
His name is Pyo.
He tells me that he knows F4, and Gu Jun-pyo, a man over flowers, is still so popular in Myanmar.
After entering a mountain path from a well-kept road, he goes up a completely winding road, turns off the air conditioner, opens the window, and goes up.
I think it’s because the car is old.
Even on a very hot and humid day, there are also people walking up the street.
If it goes up to a certain extent, there is an admission fee that I don’t know whether it’s a parking fee or a car admission fee,
I heard that customers have to pay if you ride a motorcycle, but taxis are paid by taxi drivers.
The parking lot that arrived a little further up.
He guides me, saying, “You can’t go up here with your shoes on, so leave your shoes in the car and go up barefoot.”
And he tells me, “I’ll wait in the parking lot without going up, so watch the sunset and come down.”
맨발로 차에서 내려 카메라를 세팅하고 올라가려는데 신발 보관함 같은 것도 있고
(돈 내야 한다)
올라가는 길은 에스컬레이터다.
대박. 걸어 올라가거나 하면 천몇백개의 계단을 올라야 한다고 했는데 이쪽에선 에스컬레이터를 타고 올라간다 .ㅋ..ㅋ
그런데 맨발로 에스컬레이터 타면 그 틈이 지압판처럼 느껴진다.
한국에선 느낄 수 없는 (…)
미얀마 사람들은 에스컬레이터가 익숙하지 않은 듯 난간을 붙잡고도 휘청휘청하며 오른다.
내 뒤에 있던 서양인과 눈이 마주쳤는데 웃을 수 밖에 없다.
I was going to get out of the car barefoot, set up the camera, and go up, but there was also a shoe locker.

The way up is the escalator.
Awesome. I heard that you have to climb a thousand hundreds of stairs when i walk up, but in this direction, i go up by escalator.
However, if you ride the escalator barefoot, the gap feels like an acupressure plate.
I can’t feel it in Korea.
Myanmar people are not familiar with escalators, and they stagger up even when they hold onto the railing.
I made eye contact with a Westerner behind me, and when I saw that, I smiled.
정상으로 올라가면 입장료가 있다.
이것도 외국인에게만 받는 것 같은데 여튼 1000짯을 내면 티켓을 하나 주는데 잘 가지고 있어야 한다.
조금 돌다가 다른 쪽에서 외국인이라고 보면 돈 또 달라고 하는데 입장권을 꺼내서 보여줘야 그제서야 Sorry 라고 한다.
여튼 정상으로 올라가 한 바퀴 돌며 포인트가 될 만한 곳을 찾아본다.
근데 여기 그늘 말고 태양빛이 닿는 곳들은 겁나 뜨겁다.
물론 양말조차 신을 수 없으니 피할 수 있는 방법은 없다.
그리고 생각보다 촬영 포인트가 마땅치 않고 해가 떨어지는 방향은 완전 역광이고
반대편은 뭐가 없어 몇 바퀴를 돌았는지 모르겠다.
There is an admission fee if you go up to the top.
I think I only get this from foreigners, but anyway, if I pay 1000Ks, I get a ticket, so I have to keep it well.
If you turn around a little and see a foreigner on the other side, they ask me for money again, and you have to take out your ticket and show it to them.
Anyway, go up to the top and take a turn to find a point.
But the floor is very hot in places where the sun shines, not in the shade.
Of course, there is no way to avoid it because you can’t even wear socks.
And the shooting point wasn’t as good as I thought, and the direction where the sun was falling was totally against the light,
I don’t know how many laps I’ve done because the other side doesn’t have anything to use as a subject.
그런데 여기 정상에 올라와있는 어린 학생들이나 스님들 같은 현지인들이
돌아다니는 외국인들 쫓아다니며 영어로 말을 건다.
학교에서든 어디서든 배운 영어를 실전으로 연습하는 듯
문장 문법을 하나씩 다 따져가며 질문하고 이야기를 나눈다.
내게도 세 팀 정도 다가와서 커다란 카메라를 든채로 쉬지도 않고 열댓바퀴 돌고 있으니
왜그러는지 궁금했나 계속 묻는다. ㅋ..ㅋ
But the local people, like the young students and the monks who are on top of course,
He chases foreigners walking around Mandalay Hill and talks to them in English.
As if they were practicing the English they had learned at school or anywhere
Ask questions and talk, weighing all the sentence grammar one by one.
Three teams came up to me, and I saw myself walking ten times without a break with a big camera,
They wondered why I was doing that. They keep asking me.
시간은 흘러 하늘이 붉게 물들기 시작했고 본격적으로 촬영을 하기 시작했다.
어제처럼 구름한점 없는 일몰이라 구도에 많은 애를 먹어가며 촬영하다보니
어느 덧 해가 지고 마지막 빛을 뿌려대고 있는데 난간에 붙어있는 가로등에 불이 켜진다.
그 장면을 보고나니 모델 한 명 구해서 키스 시키면 좋겠다 생각이 들었는데
아직 일몰을 보고 있는 사람들이 너무 많아서 모델 촬영하기엔 민폐같은 느낌이 들어 (비키라고 할 수도 없고)
잠시 앉아서 쉬는데 아주 잠깐의 시간이었음에도 순식간에 대부분의 사람이 빠져 나갔다.
그 중에서 커플을 찾아 다니다가 물을 나눠 마시는 커플을 만났고
그들에게 다가가
‘한국에서 활동하는 사진가인데 지금 커플 모델을 찾고 있어. 괜찮으면 너희를 모델로 찍고 사진을 보내줘도 될까?’ 물었더니
한치에 망설임도 없이 수락하는 그들.
가로등 밑으로 데려가 나란히 서서 뷰를 바라보고, 서로 바라보고. 키스하는거야. 라고 설명했더니 엄청 좋아한다.
요청한 대로 잘 따라와 주고 키스는 정말 영화처럼 나누던 그들에게 찍은 사진을 보여주고 이메일을 받았다.

After seeing that scene, I thought it would be good to get a couple model and kiss her,
There are still so many people watching the sunset that it feels like a nuisance to model (I can’t even ask you to move)
It’s only been a very short time since I sat down and rested for a while, and in an instant most people got out.
Among them, I met a couple who shared water while looking for a couple,
Go up to them
“I’m a photographer working in Korea and I’m looking for a couple model. If it’s okay with you guys, can I take a picture of you and send you a picture?” I asked
They accept without hesitation.
I took them under the streetlights and explained, “First you stand side by side and look at the view, second you look at each other, third you kiss.” And they like it.
Followed me well as I requested, showed pictures taken to them kissing like a movie and got an email.
그리고 택시가 기다리는 곳으로 내려가려고 계단을 찾아가려는데
에스컬레이터가 있는 곳으로 직원들이 안내하길래 갔더니
올라오는 것만 있던 에스컬레이터가 해가 지고나니 더이상 올라오는 손님이 없는지 내려가는 방향으로 바뀌어 있다.
(블로그엔 올라갈 땐 에스컬레이터 내려갈 땐 계단이라고 알려져 있는데 일몰 후에 내려가려면 에스컬레이터 타고 내려가면 됩니다.)
덕분에 편하게 내려왔다.
